High school girls basketball team wins 102-0

The vast American high school basketball landscape is littered with talent disparities. There are countless stories of running clocks, of games ending at halftime, of astounding triple-digit point totals and similarly astounding single-digit ones. But 100-plus points and a shutout?

Not completely unprecedented. But close to unheard of.

That’s what happened in northeast Montana last Friday. The Froid-Medicine Lake Redhawks beat the Brockton High Warriors 102-0. Yes, 102-0.

Tragedy as famous daredevil climber plunges to death from well-known skyscraper

A daredevil climber was attempting to scale a 62-story skyscraper in China when he plunged to his death, according to media reports.

Wu Yongning, a so-called “rooftopper,” had earned a huge following on social media by climbing tall buildings without safety equipment and posting vertigo-inducing selfies and videos online. However, the 26-year-old fell from the top of the 62-story Huayuan Hua Centre in the Chinese city of Changsha, The Telegraph reports.

The daredevil was reportedly attempting to claim $11,200 for a clip promoting an unnamed sponsor. Citing police, The Sun reports that Wu fell about 45 feet onto a terrace and died of fatal injuries either during or shortly after the accident.

AsiaOne reports that a video of the horrific incident surfaced online Dec. 10. The accident occurred Nov. 8, it said, citing a post by Wu’s girlfriend on Chinese social media site Weibo.

Wu, a former movie stuntman, had more than one million followers on the Chinese Internet, according to The Telegraph.

New York store owner, 80, shot and killed over 50 cents

A heartless gunman shot an 80-year-old Brooklyn bodega owner in the chest Tuesday night — killing him over a mere 50 cents, police sources told The Post.

The gunman, who was still at large Wednesday, had taken a bottle of Corona from the fridge and thrown down $1.50 in payment.

“Hey, that’s $2!” shouted one of the four workers in the bodega — the 797 Deli on Stanley Avenue and Ashford Street in East New York — a law enforcement source told The Post.

“I’m going to come back,” the man threatened as he left with his beer. “And shoot you all.”

Sure enough, a short while later the man returned and opened fire, letting loose 12 bullets.

Only one struck its target, piercing the chest of bodega worker Abdulla Yafaee, 80.

The callous gunman fled, but was caught on video and recognized by surviving workers as someone who had been at the store before.

Bethany Stephens was mauled by her two dogs while taking them for a walk near her home.

Woman mauled to death while taking her beloved pit bulls for a walk, police say

A Virginia woman was mauled to death by her dogs while taking them for a walk in the woods near her home, local authorities said Friday.

Local deputies found the body of Bethany Stephens, 22, in a wooded area off of Manakin Road in Goodland, Va. around 8:20 p.m. on Thursday, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

In a news conference Friday, Sheriff James L. Agnew said Stephens’ body was found guarded by “two very large, brindle-colored pitbull dogs.” He suspected that the dogs had been bred for fighting.

n an initial report, the medical examiner’s office said Stephens had defensive wounds on her hands and arms. But the first traumatic injury she suffered was to her throat and face, Agnew said.

"It appears she was taken to the ground, lost consciousness, and the dogs then mauled her to death," he said, according to a local Fox affiliate.

The area where they found the victim’s body was covered in blood, Agnew said, adding that it took at least eight hours for investigators to collect over 60 pieces of evidence.

"It was an absolutely grisly mauling," Sheriff Agnew said. "In my 40 years of law enforcement I've never seen anything quite like it. I hope I never see anything like it again."

The dogs, which are now with Goochland Animal Control, will most likely be euthanized.

A ski lift malfunctioned at a resort in central Pennsylvania Saturday, stranding 50 to 100 skiers and injuring five of them.

Emergency crews responded around 10:30 a.m. to the Tussey Mountain ski resort in Harris Township to lower skiers from the lift with ropes and transport the injured to the hospital.

A witness told WJAC-TV she watched as the lift malfunctioned and several chairs crashed into each other. She said many people have already been taken away by ambulance.

State police confirmed at least five people suffered minor injuries, the station reported.

Ho! Ho! What?!? Mainstream media heralds book depicting Santa Claus as a gay black man

Mrs. Claus is now a mister in a new gay-themed Christmas storybook for children that has CNN and the rest of the Mainstream Media all aflutter.

“Santa’s Husband” tells the story of a black Kris Kringle and his white husband living in holy matrimony at the North Pole.

I don’t mean to curdle your egg nog, but the storybook was written for children as young as four-years-old.

Yes, good readers. Now you can tuck in your preschoolers on Christmas Eve and regale them with tales of Frosty and the Sugar Plum Fairy and a jolly old gay elf who slides down chimneys and stuffs holiday stockings.

“As this charming book reminds us, Santa Claus can come in all shapes and colors and sizes – just like the children and families he visits all over the world each Christmas Eve,” read a description of the book on Amazon.com.

Author Daniel Kibblesmith, a writer for “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”, told CNN he was inspired to write the book to “by the annual tradition we have in this country of pretending that there’s a giant war on Christmas, and that traditional Christmas is under attack.”

Mr. Kibblesmith also took exception with the generally-held belief that Santa Claus is a white guy.

“We were reading all of the news about Mall of America hiring a black Santa Claus last year and me and my now wife made a joke on Twitter that if we ever had a child they would only know about black Santa Claus and if they saw a white Santa Claus at the mall we would just explain ‘Well, that’s his husband,'” he told CNN.

Mr. Kibblesmith’s politically-correct version of Santa Claus is all the rage among Mainstream Media types – pretty much the same crowd that celebrates depictions of Jesus as a gay man.

The book is “as true and humble a Christmas tale as any Santa enthusiast could want,” declared Chicago Tribune writer Rex Huppke.

“And that is the beauty of this holiday tale,” he wrote. “The fact that Santa Claus is black and gay has little bearing on the story. What it’s really about is accepting that every family sees Christmas in a different way.”

Esquire.com heralded the book as “war on Christmas trolling at its finest.”

“The all-ages book about a black, gay Santa takes on the Yuletide zealots with a warm smile,” one headline screamed.

“In a lot of ways, it was just a reaction to people who wanted to police Christmas and keep it all to themselves, without acknowledging the reality of how diverse the country is, and how diverse our traditions have become—not just with people from different religions, but just with pop culture becoming one of the driving forces behind it,” Mr. Kibblesmith told Esquire.

Mr. Kibblesmith does not offer any advice for parents on how to address questions that might arise from curious youngsters. Like, for example, why does Mrs. Claus have a beard?

Well, I suppose it could’ve been worse. Santa could’ve been married to a gender fluid, androgynous elf or a non-binary reindeer with a red nose.

interesting. didn't know about the fate of the original painting.

there's lots of symbolism in this painting. there are 13 soldiers in it representing the 13 colonies (and things like that, but that's the only one i remember right now). heard a comedian once joke that the bravest person was not someone in the boat, but the artist swimming alongside painting the picture as it happened.

An attorney who reportedly had just been canned at a Southern California law firm opened fire in the office, killing one senior partner and wounding another before killing himself, according to the Orange County Register.

The paper quoted sources as saying the partner who was killed was Major Langer, 75, and the partner who was wounded was Ronald Beck, who ran the day-to-day operations at Perona, Langer, Beck, Serbin, Mendoza and Harrison, a personal injury litigation firm in Long Beach.

Police received reports of a shooter at 2:25 p.m. at the law firm in the Bixby Knolls section of Long Beach – an oceanfront city south of Los Angeles, Fox 11 reported.

Eventually, police confirmed the gunman and another victim were dead, with a third person was injured.

At a news conference, Sgt. Brad Johnson of the Long Beach Police Department said the suspect had shot himself  but it remained unclear if he died before or after police arrived.

When I got stationed in Alaska we went through a bunch of classes and briefings about dealing with the outdoor activities. One of the first ones warned that the clear cool water coming down those mountain springs was an invitation to severe intestinal distress. A little something they called the “beaver fever”
