Probably not since Trout gets a considerable raise in salary that I don't believe wasn't factored into his AAV last season since he signed so late. His contract now values at $24 million a year to the tax even though they are only paying him $5.25 million this season. At least that's how I understand the luxury tax calculations.

You are correct. They timed the extension so that the new Trout contract would take effect after the Vernon Wells contract went off the books.
