Hamilton's debut at the Big A

Recommended Posts

Lets give this guy a big ovation..those rednecks in texas dont know how to appreciate him. Everyone knows that without Hamilton, texas is a different team '10-'12.....even going over board with his family in the stands...it pisses me off...lets show him we do appreciate having him in angel red... the guy needs the support

He'll get a good one. No worries on that.

The silence for josh thing turned out well

The silence for Josh thing was just the brainchild of someone trying to make money sellin t-shirts.  It did not stand a chance because too many people felt like they did not want Josh to hear any cheers.

The boos were not because he left Texas.   Not because he went to the Angels.  It was because of the comments he made about "not being a baseball town".  It may be a true statement, but it was not the proper thing for him to say.  And then a week after the comments he is on XM Radio talking about how great the Texas fans were.  He was talking out of both sides of his mouth, just trying to get his  name in the paper more.

Arlington is a football town, but with the crappy Cowgrils, baseball is gaining and it is  not slowly.

So he saying a true statement isn't the proper thing to say?

How is Josh saying it's not a baseball town and then saying Texas fans were great constitute him talking out both sides of his mouth?

Angels fans are great, but it doesn't make Anaheim a baseball town.

Hey guys.  Rangers fan here.  I don't mean to butt in on your conversation, but I just wanted to add something to this.  To be honest, I don't care about Hamilton's comments regarding this not being a baseball town.  And I don't care that he left.  Hell, I wanted him gone.  I don't like that he's an Angel now but oh well.  My issue with Josh is that he completely quit on this team last season.  Completely mailed it in and there's no excuse for it.  I lost every ounce of respect that I had for the guy when he did that.  That's my biggest issue with the guy.

So boo him last year.  He's no longer on your team.  Why boo now?  Booing because he made some comment about the area being a baseball town makes me laugh.  In my head I hear, "Someone said something vewy bad about my team.  It hurts my feewings."

I was there on Friday.  I didn't boo, but I have no problem with those that did.  He did get boo'd last season as well.  Like I said earlier, I don't care about his comments about the "baseball town" thing.  I don't really care.  With me, the Hamilton hate stems from his ridiculous no care attitude after May last season.  It pisses people off.  I mean did he really expect to come into our house and be applauded?  It's unrealistic to think that.

Pretty funny that some think he didn't care and just mailed it in last year.

You apparently didn't watch Rangers baseball late last season.  We even had a player (Mike Adams) say that you never knew which Hamilton was going to show up at the park every day.  Hamilton is a weird dude.  Great player with ridiculous talent, but he's odd.  All I'm saying is he looked like a dude that would rather be anywhere else than at the ballpark.

Funny, I seem to remember a guy named Tim Salmon. I believe he was a home grown player that was the face of the franchise and played his entire career with the Angels. Sure, he retired in 06, but math tells me that is less than a decade.  I think Weaver had that role too, and what did he do? he signed a long term deal that worked well for him and the team, which helped the front office in freeing up money to get Albert and C.J. Now Trout is becoming the face of the franchise. So while that Angels have gone out and spent money on free agents, they also have home grown players that stick around.

What do you think would happen if, say, Mike Trout signed with the Doyers as soon as he hit free agency, then talked about always wanting to play for an LA Baseball team with rich history etc?

Saying that "Dallas/Ft.Worth is not a baseball town", and saying "the fans are great" are not comments that necessarily contradict each other.

I am not sure how what I said supports your thoughts, maybe I am reading it wrong. If so, you are welcome.

"The Angels haven't really had a big franchise player who is the face of their team in a long time."- I named three that have basically spanned from the mid 90's to today.

"Their MO for over a decade has been to buy established FA who don't stay around all that long." The only established FA that might fit that bill and also be considered a face of the franchise player is/was Hunter. Something tells me we won't boo him every chance we get, nor do I think we will spend days on Tigerswin.com  bashing him.

Now if what you are saying is the Angels have not had a face of the franchise player leave for another team (excluding, maybe Hunter), then I totally agree with you. It probably sucks for Rangers fans to have the face of their franchise leave. This is why they are bitter and doing all they can to hate on Hamilton.

It's like in high school when your girl dumps you so you spend the rest of the year bad mouthing her. It's lame, and childish, but I suppose makes you feel better. I guess it makes Rangers fans feel better too, but you have to admit, it makes them look pretty silly (almost as silly as Hamilton has looked at the plate so far. Almost)

Funny how fans think they know everything about a player. How in the hell would you know that he'd rather be anywhere else than the ballpark? Ranger fans are just embarrassing themselves right now.

because his own teammates have weighed in on the issue. he was also traded by cincinnati because players thought he was a prima donna.

i'd say you're embarrassing yourself because you're having such a hard time understanding context. you're rehashing the argument that people resent him because he simply went to another team. he became distracted by the media circus last year, had no tact when speaking to the media and continues to lack tact.

I do find it pretty amazing how many people buy into the narrative about him giving up on his team in the middle of a playoff race.

If you actually read what I said, I said it appeared that way.  And I was basing it on what we saw on the field from him.  Jesus Christ, I just got on here to add something as to why Hamilton is hated so much here now.  How is that embarrassing myself?

And I would say you are embarrassing yourself by spending more time reading about what Angels fans think than what Rags fans think.
