The St. Louis Cardinals have locked up their top starting pitcher, reaching agreement with right-hander Adam Wainwright on a five-year, $97.5 million contract extension, according to major-league sources.

 

Wainwright, 31, was set to become a free agent at the end of the season. He will earn $13 million in 2013, the final year of his current deal. His new contract will run from 2014 to ’18.

Regarding the contract, seems about right considering the recent deals that have been given out for "aces"
