Josh Hamilton hits his first homer against his former team, but the Angels lose third game in a row to Texas by home run. Adrian Beltre led off the bottom of the ninth for Texas with a home run to beat the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 on Wednesday night, completing a three-game series sweep in which the Rangers won each on game-ending homers. This really is absolutely demoralizing to watch. I knew it was coming, but when Beltre launched that ball to the moon I was still left sitting there silently starring at the TV. I'm in absolute disbelief the way this is going down. Is this how Boston felt in 2011? Is this worse? Who knows..

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - JULY 31, 2002 GAME 106 - RED SOX AT ANGELS ANAHEIM -- Trying to hit Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield's knuckleball, the Angels hitters looked like they were trying to hit a butterfly with a pencil. And coming one night after trying -- and failing -- to hit the hard-throwing Pedro Martinez could not have helped their cause, either. In fact, when Scott Spiezio doubled with one out in the fifth inning Tuesday, it marked the first time the Angels had moved a baserunner as far as second base in 14 innings, going back to the series opener on Monday. The Angels managed a run on Troy Glaus' eighth-inning home run, but it…

The Angels were able to pull off a couple of relatively minor deals prior to the non-waiver Trade Deadline, flipping Scott Downs to the Braves for Minor League reliever Cory Rasmus and sending Alberto Callaspo to the Athletics for Minor League infielder Grant Green. View the full article

Dodgers are playing well so Arte doesn't need to worry about them picking him up.

MikeDiGiovanna 11:16am via Web Heard rumblings that #Pirates inquired about #Angels 1B Mark Trumbo and might be willing to part with young SP; not sure if it has legs. Oh god yes!

Based on our first look at the season these last couple weeks, and the upcoming LAA / HOU series on the horizon I'm curious about people's thoughts on this.

Good evening my fellow Halo fans. I'd like to welcome you all here. Make yourselves comfortable. We have 2 reliable starting pitchers, an arson squad bullpen, high payroll with lots of players on decline, lots of players who are poor situational hitters, no farm system, a stubborn manager, a GM that operates as if he's in a Fantasy baseball league, and an owner who seems more interested in business instead of putting together a winning baseball team. Did I miss anything?

A frustrated Burnett is diagnosed with a small tear on a tendon near his elbow and probably will undergo surgery that would sideline him for three to five months. ARLINGTON, Texas — A frustration-filled first season with the Angels came to an early end Wednesday for reliever Sean Burnett, who was diagnosed with a small tear of the flexor tendon near his elbow and is out for the year. But the guys on the team really seem to like him. I hope he turns it around, he seems like a really good guy. He is having a very good series.

Getting Grant Green and Cory Rasmus is a step in the right direction. But, I don't think it's enough. Barring the entire team playing above their heads, I don't see how this team contends in 2014. Every area (line-up, starting pitching, bullpen, defense, farm system) needs significant improvement. Unfortunately, the contract structures of the many of the key players prohibit a Red Sox style detonation. And, not to mention, blowing up the team requires a commitment to the process. The team would have to let go of some good players, that I really like (Vargas, Kendrick, Aybar, Trumbo, Frieri, etc.) in order to build up the farm system. And, we would have to cringe and…

Post all updates in here to make it easier for everyone to get info. @Alden_Gonzalez: Hear #Angels' chances of making another deal before Deadline now "better than 50/50." Lotsa interest. "Vultures are circling," source said. @Ken_Rosenthal: Source: #Royals on H. Kendrick’s no-trade list. Kendrick can block trades to 12 teams this season, per Cot’s Baseball Contracts. #Angels. @Ken_Rosenthal: #Angels’ preference is to use Kendrick to get starting pitcher. Aybar also in play, but easier to replace a second baseman than a shortstop.

Nine starts with only 50 innings before tonight (5 2/3 per start), with a high WHIP and pitches/inning But of course, only 63 pitches in 5 innings so far and a 2 hit shutout This team never ceases to amaze me.

Ernesto Frieri struggled in his past three appearances, and now the Angels will essentially go with a closer by committee. But as Mike Scioscia emphasized prior to Wednesday's series finale from Rangers Ballpark: "He's got to be part of the closing solution that we have." View the full article

As far as I can tell Dipoto has not made one good move for the long term benefit of this organization. He has made several poor moves, but not one good one. The draft may have been good, so that is a plus. Green may pan out, but that move was just made. I think 2014 should be his very last chance to improve the long term prospects of this team. Personally, I would have already fired him.

Although I've been vocal about trading Trumbo, I can't help but feel that at some point soon - maybe next year or the next - something is going to click for him and he's going to go from a .250/.780, 30 HR hitter, to a .280/.850+, 35 HR hitter. I know he's already 27, but it just seems like he needs more time to mature into his peak, which will be more like age 28-32. Who knows, of course, its just an inkling I have. Maybe the Angels have the same inkling and are thus hesitant to trade him.

I know we are out of it. But we haven't seen many Augusts where we were out of it after 2002, just 2003 and 2010. Is he still going to be totally loyal to the veterans, instead of seeing what the youngsters have in preparation for 2014?

I'm tired of watching these players every night. Guys like Aybar, Trumbo and Kendrick are solid players but they haven't done anything for us in the last 4 years. I want to watch something else. They aren't winners and they aren't the solution. I was hoping to get some pitching so I have something to look forward to watching every night

An exchange going to break on MLB's Trade Deadline special. Tom Verducci: One quick note on the market here. Five of the top 10 payrolls in baseball are sellers right now, too. And it's a really weird market. Brian Kenny: It is. It's the price that you pay. Look, you invest and you're like "Oh well, we'll worry about those years later?" Well for a lot of clubs, this is now. This is when you have to worry about it. Now is when you see the... yeah. Later has arrived. Here it is. It is later.
