He has some serious heat but no appreciable breaking ball to set up the hitters. That and his spordic control means we've probably seen his best. The Padres cut him loose because of control problems.

If the Rangers are going to win consecutive games for the first time since July 7-9, they will have to do so against a familiar face. Former Texas lefty C.J. Wilson starts for the Angels, and he'll take on southpaw Derek Holland on Tuesday. View the full article

30-74 I think Mike Trout has saved a lot of FO jobs and Scioscia. I think we will end up at least 20 games behind the A's when all of the dust settles.

@EyeOnBaseball: Former Cubs pitcher Frank Castillo drowned in Arizona Sunday http://t.co/c2FKW10LwB via @cbssports Frank Castillo has died at the age of 44. (USATSI) Former Major League Baseball pitcher Frank Castillo has died in a drowning accident, his family has told KVIA El Paso Monday. The accident occurred Sunday in Arizona's Bartlett Lake, which is reportedly near Castillo's home. He was out with a friend on a pontoon boot when he went out for a swim. He didn't come back up from under the water so his friend reportedly called for help. Castillo spent parts of 13 seasons in the majors between 1991 and 2005. He appeared in 297 games, starting 268. He was 82-104 w…

Honestly, name a GM or two in the game that has been worse than Dipoto the last two years. -signed Pujols to terrible contract (maybe Arte's fault) -signed Hamilton to terrible contract -Hanson for Walden looks terrible right now -Segura for Greinke -Joe Blanton -Chatwood for Iannetta -Didn't go get Anibal Sanchez when Greinke left -Ignored bullpen in 2012 -Madson hasn't played -Burnett has been hurt -Traded Erivn Santana for a bag of balls (Ervin is having an incredible season) Terrible. Fire this guy immediately.

when we're hanging on to a 1 run lead in the 8th with 1st and 3rd and nobody out, why aren't we bunting in a run anymore? At least I don't have to watch Sosh leave Albert on 1st in the 8th anymore this season... jeez

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9518562/milwaukee-brewers-distribute-10-vouchers-august-games Challenged by the news of Ryan Braun's suspension and a disappointing season, Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio is reaching into his wallet. The team announced Monday that each fan who shows up with a ticket to any of the team's 12 home games in August will receive a $10 voucher that will be good for food, beverages, tickets or merchandise. Nice gesture by the Brewers. Maybe Arte should do something like this, for the "trying" season we've all had rooting for our team.

Injuries. Horrible starting pitching after #2 and a steady rotation of horrid setup guys. Injuries to the offense and key components. Puljos & Bourjos And players playing well below standards offensively and defensively. Hamilton & Callapso, Aybar Thoughts? Which team does this squad remind you of? And I don't want to hear about Gone Days, Hubbie Brooks and Chico Walker as those are my favorite playas...

Trout, Weaver, Wilson, and the handful of other guys who have had good seasons and are signed here long term. This org has clearly decided to throw up the white flag for 2013 (with good reason), meaning 2+ months of depressing, meaningless baseball and a very dubious next few years.

I'm finally willing to concede defeat. Actually, I was ready yesterday but today further seals the deal. So let's take a look at what the Angels have, who is staying and who might be going. The conventional wisdom is that the Angels won't trade big because of the way the team is configured - to (hopefully) win within the next few years, while Weaver, Wilson, and Hamilton are still around. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Dipoto clean out a lot of parts in order to create some breathing room. I also don't think Dipoto will dive deep into the minors, unless he ends up trading an excess player like Cron or Grichuk, but even those guys will probably be kept to see if th…

Angels, far back in AL West, send 37-year-old Scott Downs to Braves, runaway NL East leaders, for minor league pitcher Cory Rasmus.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Scott Downs signed with the Angels before 2011 because he thought they offered a great shot at pitching in the playoffs for the first time. View the full article

If we get Bourjos back, and put out an outfield of Trout/Bourjos/Calhoun every day with Hamilton at DH, and we trade off Aybar and Kendrick and bring up some exciting kids who are too green to be nervous, and Vargas and Hanson come back to form with no pressure and Blanton does well in long relief.....I'm really going to like this team going forward. Playoffs be damned. It will be good to see an Angels team having fun again.

With Scott Servais in charge of rebuilding a minor league system depleted by trades, the Angels are focused on acquiring and developing talented young players who can one day help out the big club. Scott Servais knew what he was getting himself into when he took over the Angels scouting and player development departments two years ago. View the full article

The outside perception is that Mike Scioscia and the Angels -- fresh off trading veteran reliever Scott Downs for a Minor League pitcher and perhaps looking to strike other similar deals -- are waving the proverbial white flag on their 2013 season. Really, though, they're just embracing reality. View the full article

First I just want to say that when I gave up on the season a month or so ago I didn't think the Angels would still be this bad today. I don't usually rant much but here it goes. I am so frustrated with this team, not even because they are terrible this year its because they have no passion no fire and just seem so lifeless. This is not a Mike team no one other than Trout and Bourjos has any speed and only Trout knows how to use it to steal bases. We no longer go 1st to 3rd we are a station to station team with over the hill aging veterans who fell of the PED cliff once they signed here. I don't know what happened to Pujols and Hamilton, and don't use the excuse the P…

As terrible as this season has been, besides Trout, the only other bright spot has been Weav lately. He is a gamer and it seems he's back to dominating most line ups. I'm glad he is pitching on a Nationally televised game against our hated rivals. Hopefully he show's Garza what an elite pitcher can do!

Angels prospect C.J. Cron is a realist. He knows Los Angeles has a long-term commitment to Albert Pujols as well as a potential first baseman in Mark Trumbo. But Cron is confident in his own ability; he will let his play dictate his future. View the full article
