Nick Maronde called up

anybody know why maronde went from a relatively solid lh rp last year to being buried in the minors this year?

His number with the Angels were terrible, in very limited innings this year. His numbers in the minors this year haven't been very good.

After a rough first two months of the season (and terrible spring) Maronde is back on track posting a 3.68 ERA in June and a 2.51 ERA in July with an improved BB/K rate of 3:18 in 14 1/3 innings of work this month.

He also gave up 11 hits and 14 walks to 13 strikeouts in 14.2 IP in June.

His July has been legitimately encouraging, June not so much despite the not terrible ERA.

There is absolutely NOTHING consistent or reasonable about the decisions the Angels are making right now. I know somethings needs to be done but there doesn't seem to be a plan.

Being pretty much eliminated from any reasonable playoff position, why is it unreasonable to bring up a lefty who you  believe has great potential at this time in the race.

I think the plan is pretty obvious.  Get as many of the young guys with potential as possible up here to see who sinks or swims, while dangling a couple of their best trade pieces (Kendrick, Aybar) to see what they can get in return.  As has been discussed at length on this board, there's really not much more they can do at this point.  They're obviously trying to retool for 2014 as best they can.
