He became the oldest person to hit a walk off home run in mlb history. I was more impressed by his quotes as it reminds me of what the angels are not at the moment. "I'm a little old to be dunked with water. I love it. I've been preaching all year one guy is not more important than another and it's going to take all 25 of us, even more than that, to win ballgames and we've done it all year. It's just exciting to be a part of it." "That's what keeps you coming back," Giambi said. "There's no moment more special than when you get that embrace from your teammates and all those smiles. It's exciting." "I love how we're growing and that's what I keep telling …

This is one of those things that I've been thinking about lately. You look at the playoff teams right now. Division Leaders Dodgers #2 Detroit #5 Cardinals #10 Braves #16 Oakland #27 Rays #28 Those .5 back. Boston #4 Baltimore #15 Pirates #20 Would Billy Beane be a better GM, if he had an unlimited or Max budget? I really don't think he would be. He works and stretches what he has, and knows when to sell to quickly rebuild. I think back to all the trades that people are bitching about that we made. And every single one of them had one purpose. To spend whatever it took to make the playoffs. And this philosophy goes all the way to the h…

Read all about it. I like Sickels because he nicely balances scouting with sabermetrics and seems to have no clear agendas or biases. He likes the trade for both teams and gives a bit more about Rasmus' past. Evidently he missed quite a bit of time due to injury, which is why he's still in AAA at 26, and then couldn't maintain starting without further injury, which is why he is a reliever. Anyhow, I feel a bit more intrigued by Rasmus now. Relievers often peak a bit later anyhow, so 26 isn't exactly old. I don't quite see him being a major league closer but he could be a good, even very good, middle reliever, as soon as next year. My view of the trade went from "very …

Yes, I know it has nothing to do with the future Angels, I just thought this would be the most appropriate forum since it involves Minor League Baseball and their promotions. Granted this is no Midget Wrestling or Belvis (The Black Elvis), but it's still worthy of mention. Admit it, when you saw the title of this thread - some of you chuckled... right? Well, take ten minutes to check out the idea that grit really does matter: Latest from True Grich There's actually some science behind it. I know there's a lot of things going on with the trade deadline right now - but I invite you to take a break and ponder on the subject of grit.

So, who thinks Arte Moreno gets starry eyed yet again, and signs Cano in the off-season? All the while ignoring the pitching need, yet again?

I say this because many argue that we should trade Aybar and or Kendrick. We really don't have an adequate replacement for either for next year. Yes we could probably get a decent load of prospects for them if we traded them, but without an adequate replacement at 2b or SS wouldn't we have to give up on 2014 as well? Some may say we should. Some say this team is a good few years away from being a playoff team. If that is so maybe we should trade them. However, If you feel Hamilton can return to at least near all star play (he used to be one of the best) and if Pujols can be a consistent 280 30 HR player (something even a declining Pujols can be) that this team can b…

If it makes anyone feel better, that's how it's going to end up by season's end. Oakland's peaked for too long now, they won't sustain for that winning clip the season remainder. Texas is falling back, who knows what will happen with the Angels, and then there's Seattle who could end out on top if they keep that momentum. It's been like waiting for The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown with the Angels, but watch Oakland lose control of this division.

I keep seeing tons of posts about selling off the teams spare parts to make them better......eventually Yet a bad loss tonight and many are still pissed even with little doubt about the outcome of this season. On top of that, we traded a 38yo middle relief lefty specialist about to become a FA with half less than half a season left on his somewhat expensive contract (for his ability) and got market value which wasn't much yet we somehow should have parlayed him into a #3 starter for 2016. It's hard to imagine how many will react when we are left with Trout, Weaver, Wilson, Pujols, Hamilton and a bunch of prospects we traded for when we should have gotten more…

First off. Up yours, Frieri. His performance tonight was a microcosm of the past four seasons for the Angels. So much hype and expectations followed by shit in the end. Trade them all (except Trout and Weaver).

Too bad it's playing for all the other teams. Segura, Chatwood, Corbin, Skaggs, Napoli, Santana... All doing much better than the clowns we replaced them with or held onto. This is how you blow two straight seasons that you entered as a World Series favorite.

Angels closer Ernesto Frieri gives up two home runs in ninth, including Geovany Soto's walk-off blast, to ruin strong outing by Jered Weaver.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Jered Weaver allowed one run and five hits in seven splendid innings, "the best I've ever thrown the ball in Texas," he said, and J.B. Shuck, who got the silent treatment after hitting his first big league home run, responded by walking the length of the dugout and hilariously high-fiving invisible teammates. View the full article

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - JULY 29, 2002 GAME 104 - RED SOX AT ANGELS ANAHEIM -- The Angels fans stood on their feet, waiting to cheer the last out. But unlike in 1986, when the Boston Red Sox spoiled the Angels' best chance to go to a World Series, this time that final out came. Angels closer Troy Percival got Johnny Damon on a comebacker with the potential tying run on second base to give the Angels a 5-4 win over the Red Sox before 27,929 at Edison Field. The Angels rallied from a 4-3 deficit with two runs in the eighth inning to provide the margin of victory and send home these fans happy, at least this time around. With the win, the Angels…

By Joe Haakenson, AngelsWin.com Contributor - JULY 27, 2002 GAME 102 - ANGELS AT MARINERS SEATTLE – It might have been fun while it lasted, but the Angels’ hold on first place in the A.L. West was short-lived, their 3-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners before 45,974 at Safeco Field dropping them back into second place, a game behind the Mariners. Angels starter Jarrod Washburn saw the end to his personal 12-game winning streak, but it wasn’t because he didn’t pitch well. Washburn (12-3) pitched a complete game, allowing all three runs but only four hits. The big blow was a two-run home run by Edgar Martinez in the fourth inning. The Angels out-hit the Marin…

He has some serious heat but no appreciable breaking ball to set up the hitters. That and his spordic control means we've probably seen his best. The Padres cut him loose because of control problems.

If the Rangers are going to win consecutive games for the first time since July 7-9, they will have to do so against a familiar face. Former Texas lefty C.J. Wilson starts for the Angels, and he'll take on southpaw Derek Holland on Tuesday. View the full article

30-74 I think Mike Trout has saved a lot of FO jobs and Scioscia. I think we will end up at least 20 games behind the A's when all of the dust settles.

@EyeOnBaseball: Former Cubs pitcher Frank Castillo drowned in Arizona Sunday http://t.co/c2FKW10LwB via @cbssports Frank Castillo has died at the age of 44. (USATSI) Former Major League Baseball pitcher Frank Castillo has died in a drowning accident, his family has told KVIA El Paso Monday. The accident occurred Sunday in Arizona's Bartlett Lake, which is reportedly near Castillo's home. He was out with a friend on a pontoon boot when he went out for a swim. He didn't come back up from under the water so his friend reportedly called for help. Castillo spent parts of 13 seasons in the majors between 1991 and 2005. He appeared in 297 games, starting 268. He was 82-104 w…

Honestly, name a GM or two in the game that has been worse than Dipoto the last two years. -signed Pujols to terrible contract (maybe Arte's fault) -signed Hamilton to terrible contract -Hanson for Walden looks terrible right now -Segura for Greinke -Joe Blanton -Chatwood for Iannetta -Didn't go get Anibal Sanchez when Greinke left -Ignored bullpen in 2012 -Madson hasn't played -Burnett has been hurt -Traded Erivn Santana for a bag of balls (Ervin is having an incredible season) Terrible. Fire this guy immediately.
