Wow, Tampa Bay's asking price for David Price

Angels would have to offer Cowart, Cron, Conger, Calhoun, and Kendrick. That's not a joke. It still wouldn't get it done.

I agree. When you're talking about a 28-year old ace with a Cy Young under his belt and two more club-controlled years then there needs to be star-potential talent coming back in return and at least one player who is either young and established or a sure thing.

I personally don't think Price is a truly great pitcher, but he's great enough. He's got the 10th highest WAR among pitchers over the last two years, 8th highest over the last four years, which I think is about accurate - that he's in the 8-12 range of best starting pitchers in baseball, but not among the very best.

Could the Angels offer a non-Troutian package that would tempt the Rays? Sure, any team could. But unless they threw in a huge number of players they couldn't out-bid teams with more talent to offer.

In other words, its not about offering a good package but one that is better than other teams, and the Angels simply can't (and shouldn't) compete.

I don't blame the rays for asking, but that package from Cleveland is pretty crazy imo.  Especially considering that Price won't sign an extension and the fact that he showed a drop in velocity this year.  He's also got a bit of mileage on his arm.  Granted he was great after his early season injury, but I just have a bad feeling about this guy breaking down very soon.
