No discount either. Will be highest paid NBA player each of the 2 years. So much for saving money. Gasol needs to be dealt for prospects and draft picks right now.

Bullshit.  Just an awful move by the Lakers.  He has not played well the last couple years compared to how much he made.  I was actually hoping he would be done with the Lakers after this season.

I still think he can be a productive role player. He was a top 5 scorer last season before the injury. It's not like he is an albatross out there. I was hoping he'd take less money though in order to sign some FA's next season.

Now Lakers can only offer 1 max contract over next 2 years. Dumb move in that sense.

 

I wonder if Nash can retire early and have his contract come off the books for next season? That might allow Lakers to sign another Max FA

What a stupid, stupid move. The Lakers work so hard to have a big cap space next year and then all the sudden say 'hey what the hell, lets sign a aging player to the highest paid contract in the league.' From what I have read, Kobe (old for a player and still haven't played after a major injury) and Nash (another old-as-dirt and injured player) will take care of 56% of all the cap space next year.

What a joke. No other team would or could sign Kobe anything close to the Lakers did today. They are very much limited now next summer and the year after that as well. Just a stupid move for the Lakers

Don't know what to make of it.

He's 35 already, with 17 NBA years under his belt.

Look at Garnett, struggling for Brooklyn at age 36.

He is still a great player but is not worth 24 million. Maybe he is to the Lakers but he will handicap the next 2 years for them in their effort to sign players to play alongside him and go for the Championship. 

 

Put it this way, the Big 3 signed for 54 million combined. If the Lakers sign Carmelo alongside Kobe, that will already be 50 million. Add Nash, that's 60 million.

Especially with Blake playing solidly, send Nash to Canada to finish his career.

Where has this Blake been?    Both he and Farmar have played well at the point (combined 19 pts. and 12 assists per game and excellent A/TO ratio in some 51 minutes).
