That's a good question and it may be they don't believe he has the first step quickness to pull off 3B.   Speaking of 3B, I really want to see Grant Green play there before the season is over because his footwork at 2B is awful.   Dude, is a statue

This seems a legit criticism, even his throws from second have some arc to them...  I don't want him at 2B...  looks awful.

The Green defensive hate seems off to me. From what I see he has good range because of good initial reactions off the bat and a pretty quick release to cover his lack of ideal arm strength. Second base is a great spot for him. If youre looking for him to be anything more than a bench player, youre setting yourself up for disappointment.

Second base seems like the safest spot for him unfortunately.  He has the instincts for SS, which is why his range and glove played out about average over there.  He's played SS practically his whole life.  His footwork is pretty awful at 2B, though his reactions are fine, but that's the sort of thing you can't hide over at 3B.  I think he'd be exploited.  

 

One thing I would emphasize with Green though is that I believe this is an accurate assessment of his skills RIGHT NOW.  But in the future, he could get better.  We've seen Aybar, Howie and just about every other middle infielder come to the Angels and improve with reps.  I can't say Green will ever be a passable 3B, but I do think that with a lot of work, he could be less awful defensively as a 2B.

In other words, Green will eventually become a key utility player, as he's also played a little OF in addition to 2B and SS.

Not a bad job to have, at least unlike Romine, Nelson, and Field, he can hit the ball pretty decently.
