I don't understand why his ERA is so high (5.08). He's got a terrific strikeout rate (11.4), his walk rate isn't good but not terrible (3.7) and he's given up about a hit per inning, and only 4 HR in 56.2 innings. That all smacks of bad luck, or maybe a couple of really bad games, because his peripherals look more like a 3.50 ERA than a 5.00+ ERA.

I haven't looked at his stats all year and am feeling quite optimistic. Last year was terrible - 52 walks and 48 Ks in 82.2 innings, but it was his first year after missing all of 2011 and only playing a bit in 2010. But he's looking much better this year and I think has come back on the map as a legit prospect, if now as a reliever. Closer of the future?

A lot of that is 2 disastrous starts he made to begin the season: 5 IP combined, 11 hits, 14 ER, 1 HR, 6 BB, 3 K

His numbers out of the bullpen are pretty much better: Baseball-Reference's minor league splits has him at

52 IP(which does seem it might be 1/3 of an inning off), 45 hits, 3 HR, 17 BB, 69 Ks. 3.12 ERA and a 1.192 WHIP
