Trout Porn!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever finished top 5 in league MVP voting in each of their first 2 full seasons?

Right now, only M-Cab, Davis, and Scherzer are truly ahead of Trout.

Yep, and he started kinda slow too, but has been killing it.  I don't think he's gonna slow down this season, I suspect he'll keep pushing that BA upwards of .340ish which will have him very much in the running again.

@Jacob_Jaffe: Mike Trout's 29 doubles before the All-Star break are one shy of Garret Anderson's #Angels record of 30 set in 2003.

@Jacob_Jaffe: Mike Trout has 29 doubles, 7 triples, and 15 homers. No other person since 1916 has reached those numbers before the All-Star break. #Angels

@Jacob_Jaffe: Yes the All-Star break is late this year. But last person with 29 2Bs, 6 3Bs, 15 HRs in first 90 games was Joe DiMaggio in 1941. #Angels

@Jacob_Jaffe: Mike Trout is 2nd in MLB in doubles and tied for 4th in triples. No player since Andy Van Slyke in 1992 has finished top-5 in both. #Angels

As I said in the other thread Trout most likely won't win MVP unless Cabrera cools off and Davis at least drops his plate discipline and ends up being a slightly better version of Adam Dunn again. Trout needs to hit .360+ from here on out to end up with a .340 BA, and at least a .420 OBP. If Trout played in the NL, he'd have two MVP's under his belt in his first two seasons in the majors.

I really don't think he's going to slow down.  His swoon last season was from him breaking down physically from the long grind, at least that's what I attribute it to.  I don't see that happening this time around.  I think he's gonna be in the zone for most of the remainder of the season, hitting an overall .360 the rest of the way is only a problem for mortals.
