He was DFA'ed by the Cardinals in a 40-man crunch.  The Angels traded "cash considerations" for him.

He was DFA'ed and passed through waivers after the Angels signed him to his contract.  So unless I'm mistaken, he's not on the 40-man, but the Angels do owe him the $, even if he's pitching in the minors.
