Flying a Thud in Vietnam was a hell of a job. It could carry 12,000 lbs of bombs and fly low and slow if needed. They used to joke it was a triple-threat. It can bomb you, strafe you or fall on you. Props to your uncle for surviving those missions, the Thuds picked a lot of short straws.

But if she goes in GI and allow her MEPS score determine her career path she may never rise above NCO. Those career choices are part of the contract but the fine print says they can move you to an area of need. So instead of Satellite communications, she's in the motor pool doing logistics and never moving above Sargent. 

This is pretty sound advice. Go for the officer program up front. The Air Force is recruiting better than most but they aren’t killing it right now. As a female she just needs to be prepared to be harassed by lesbians. They’re pretty out of control. 
The marines pulled the old officer program  bait and switch on my brother and almost enlisted him in the reserves. tried to assure him he could go officer in the reserves. Dad wasn’t going to allow the youngest to move out so he rented a nice apartment for him at Uncc. He decided not to go. I managed to go enlisted to warrant officer but there is a stigma for prior enlisted officers with promotions. With warrants it didn’t matter because we all were prior enlisted but the former enlisted regular Os got screwed during the troop cuts.
