OC Register: Is Angels vs. Astros season-opening series in peril after Houston rodeo is canceled?

TEMPE, Ariz. — Questions about the Angels’ season-opening series in Houston grew louder with the cancellation of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Houston Astros, who are scheduled to host the Angels on March 26 in the first game of a season-opening four-game series, released a statement saying there have been no changes to their schedule so far.

“We are in regular communication with the city, county, local health authorities and MLB,” the statement said. “We have not adjusted our game schedule at this point – including our exhibition games.”

Obviously, the Angels’ games against the Astros are just a small slice of the worldwide situation in which large gatherings are being canceled or postponed to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Major League Baseball has not announced any alterations to the schedule, but the possibility remains that it could cancel or postpone games, play them in alternate locations or play them in major-league stadiums with the crowds restricted or eliminated.
