Meanwhile Griffey is making a good argument for himself being the best player of his time period. 

Griffey was an elite performer from 1990-2000. Here are the fWAR leaders for that time period:

1. Bonds 89.0

2. Griffey 71.4

3. Bagwell 62.8

4. Thomas 59.7

5. Edgar 55.6

So yeah, he was the second best player - but even if you take out Bonds first roid season (2000), he's still got a solid lead over Griffey. 

In the 90s, if you remember, the media loved Griffey, but the more knowledgeable fans and stat guys knew Bonds was better.

I remember Griffey slowing down while going for a fly so he could speed up at the last minute and make it look like a great catch.
