R.I.P. LEON REDBONE

"Leon interests me," Dylan said in an interview with Rolling Stone in 1974. "I've heard he's anywhere from 25 to 60, I've been (a foot and a half from him) and I can't tell, but you gotta see him. He does old Jimmie Rodgers, then turns around and does a Robert Johnson."

Ironically, one of Redbone’s most popular concert pieces was “Please Don’t Talk About Me When I’m Gone”

I remember in High School watching Saturday Night Live with my Dad one night and Leon Redbone was the featured artist. It was one of the few musicians he really liked from the minute he heard him and it was something we had in common so many years ago.

knew about him but wasn't real familiar with his music. saw george carlin in the early 80s and leon opened for him to a crowd that didn't really seem appreciative of him, including us. i never really connected with his music. i know he had a pretty difficult journey in recent years and there were other entertainers that tried to help him out.

He was keeping alive a lost music genre of the turn of the century. Most of which had blues and honky tonk influence. His sunglasses, mustache and Southern gentelmen clothing were iconic and he seemed to live in that era.
