Angels trade Kole Calhoun, Nick Tropeano, & a mid-level prospect to the Yankees for Sonny Gray and Jacoby Ellsbury and $30.3M in Cash.

Ellsbury is owed 47.3M over the next three years, 21.143 in 2019 and 2020, and 5M buyout in 2021.

Yes Ellsbury has sucked in New York, but he's still a capable defensive OF when healthy, and who knows what a change in scenery could do.

Angels would be responsible for just 6M of his salary in 2019 and 2020, which roughly equals what they are on the hook Calhoun in 2019. But The Yankees save 5M bucks on the deal and get a prospect, plus Tropeano is a non-tender candidate. And the Angels get Sonny Gray to help stabilize the rotation. Hopefully he turns back into A's Sonny Gray.

For 2019, this is around $12.5 million in Salaries going out and roughly 15 coming back. For 2020, you'd be plus 6 (though you'd save on a Arb 2 Number from Tropeano) and 2021, you could be plus 5 for the buyout.

They played McCutchen a lot in LF at the end of the year, with Hicks in CF and Stanton/Judge in RF.

Calhoun can play some OF, some CF, and some 1B if needed for them. He doesn't fit well for them, but it allows them to get out from under some of the $$$ owed Ellsbury.

Just looked it up. He didn't play at all in 2018 and had surgery to repair a torn hip muscle in August. Expected out 6 months from that surgery. I'll take Calhoun thank you.

The Angels should get him only if they can also get Will Myers.  A team of Jacoby and Myers would be epic.

They do have Meyer now, so that works.
