The 2006 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals finished the regular season with a 83-78 record, barely above. 500. They lost 9 of their last 12 regular season games - barely getting into the post season.  I guess they didn't contend either.

The 2006 Cardinals took over 1st place in their division on May 13th and never relinquished it. They were 14 games over .500 at one point during that season. They won that division. We were trailing the Astros by 19 games when we got eliminated.

Calzone - You see what you want to see.  Clearly.  Undoubtedly.  And most of all predictably.  I have deleted just about every response I've ever written to you.  You rational and reasoning makes me roll my eyes on a regular basis.  There are always so many obvious flaws in your point of view, but... I decided long time ago it's not worth the energy.  If only, I had stuck to that.

Someone please remove the hook from my lip.

True Grich I always respect your opinion but I have to disagree with this. We have consistently been one of the highest paid teams and yet we haven't won a playoff game since 2009. I know that you're already aware of that but we fell behind so fast this season it wasn't fun because we were chasing yet again. We never really looked like serious championship contenders at any point this season. Maybe next season with some money getting freed up it will be different. But please excuse my frustration.
