Two FA MLB 1B who have identical career arcs

Recommended Posts

Both Yonder Alonso and LoMo are around age 30, Alonso being 4.5 months older.  They both are impending FAs.   They both had okay OPS' coming into 2016, before exploding to .900+ OPS' so far in 2017.

Alonso is the better glove of the two.   LoMo has had a little better power-hitting history.    Are they indeed not the greatest of threats to repeat their 2017 breakout offensive seasons, based on past numbers?

Which one would be a better FA signing for the Halos, assuming that CRONic bad bat and Valnobuena are still no answer in anyway to the 1B question and Hosmer costs too much money?

Alonso career OPS+ entering this season...  103

Lomo career OPS+ entering this season ..   104

CJ Cron career OPS+ entering this season... 111

Considering MLB fully admits the balls are juiced and they will be keeping closer tabs on how they are produced moving forward I think it would be a grave mistake for the Angels to sign anyone by virtue of their performance this season.

BTW - Hosmer...  Career OPS+ entering this season -- 107

Hosmer is and always has been overrated.  That said, I think he's a good Thaiss comp.
