I don't want to see the Angels get caught out with Wilson the way that the Braves did with Greg Maddux toward the end of his career. Maddux's agent convinced the Braves that they had multiple offers on the table, and the Braves gave him a QO to assure that they got a draft pick back when he was signed. There were no other offers. Maddux accepted the QO and the Braves were on the hook - plus it screwed up other moves that were contingent upon him moving on.

Giving a guy a QO just to get a draft pick is a risky business. With Wilson's recent history, that would be a great way to guarantee that our QO is his only offer.
