Why Not Longer With Shoe?

Recommended Posts

6 IP tonight, 99 pitches.  Santiago, 6 IP yesterday, 116 pitches.  Why did he take out Shoe?  I was listening to the game on the way home that Scioscia put Morin in there with a 2-0 lead for it to evaporate.  Too much credence, confidence building he's giving his taxed bullpen there, agree?

Look at what happened in Shoemaker's last start against the same team at the same pitch count.

Hey Jeff, pleasure to talk baseball with a beat writer!  In Houston that is much more hitter friendly than Anaheim.  Scioscia is apparently unafraid with appealing too an overtaxed bullpen in the process.  Shoe has been their best pitcher, with a sneaky fastball.  You still say you wouldn't have taken the chance on him to get through 7 IP there under the present bullpen condition?  Scioscia will probably still prevail at the end, he's a good skipper, but he's rather blowing away opportunities of not seeing Shoe through, too, for being such an ACE.  He did the same thing with him against Cleveland, June 11.

5 starting pitchers on the DL and you are arguing about putting a tiring starter out there for another inning in a season where the Angels have zero chance of making the playoffs. Fan On!

Something is terribly wrong with the way they're pitching and/or the way we're training them, if they can't throw 120 pitches without their arms falling off.

How many other teams are routinely sending their starters to the DL? Don't you think it's a bit ridiculous that we have so many injuries? Isn't it a bit strange that guys like Madson got better in a hurry when they moved on?

Every team is sending pitchers to the DL every year. All the pitchers are getting the same arm over use as kids in traveling leagues and  come to the minors with more hours on their arm than they should have. Isn't it strange it took Madsen three full years to recover, one additional year after the Angels released him. Pull your head out for once a look beyond 1979.

Speaking of which, Tanana pitches a lot of innings, racked up a lot of pitches per outing and blew his arm up by age 25, becoming a junk ball pitcher afterwards. Koufax was done at age 30, Drysdale couldn't pick up a can of beer at 32.

So don't tell us all about all the glorious pitchers that threw all those games, only a couple like Ryan survived those years to pitch into effectively into their 30's.

From the MEts article,

The Mets were hoping that starter Zack Wheeler would be ready after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2015, but he had a setback that’s expected to delay him at least until August.

So it's not just Tyler Skaggs taking a while to recover from surgery.

Skaggs had TJ 8 months before Wheeler.

And that August timetable can easily slip to February for Wheeler but as an Angels fan you probably won't ever know because of a single team focus regarding injuries.

It's like Fans silly comment about Madson's amazing recovery after leaving the Angels but never checked to see he was out an additional year.
