But Eric, if the Rays have told Loney he won't make the opening day roster, he is likely to be waived or traded for basically nothing. I would take Loney and his glove and track record for around $1 million over Choi any day.

His track record is a three year decline to a .680 OPS. He's done, move on.

I like Navarro but nando you are overstating his abilities in these threads. Well I guess you aren't, but he isn't a difference maker. I would take Loney over Navarro in a second. There is no way the Angels would pay $8 million for him. If he is about to be waved we could probably get him for about $! million. I would take Loney over someone that could possibly be our 5th outfielder.

I just like his versatility better than Choi and lonely.

i know that...i was more debating the notion that that Rays would take him in any type of trade because of his spring so far.

Rays drop Loney

Angels sign Loney for the minimum

Angels offer Choi back send him to the minors

 

I said nothing about trading for Loney or taking on his 8 mil contract

meh.  don't see the upgrade here.  even if you get loney at league min, I like Choi's upside.  He's younger and has better plate discipline.  

 

Plus, there are a bunch of final roster decisions coming in the next day or two.  If the right guy pops up, Eppler will be all over it.
