AngelsWin.com is pleased to announce that we will be conducting a baseball trivia contest on Twitter with the prize being an autographed copy of the book Trolley Dodgers, Pinstriped Yankees and Wearing Red Sox: How MLB Teams Got Their Names.

Starting on Friday, April 19th, AngelsWin.com will send out a trivia question on our Twitter feed (@AngelsWin) during the 2nd inning of the game. The first correct answer will win a free autographed copy of “Trolley Dodgers, Pinstriped Yankees and Wearing Red Sox: How MLB Teams Got Their Names”. The contest will continue on Saturday, April 20th, and resume on Monday and Tuesday April 22nd and 23rd. A total of 4 autographed books will be given away in the contest.

The book is a perfect gift for every elementary school student who is learning about baseball, U.S. geography and American history. For all the Little Leaguers out there who are interested in learning about their team’s history, this book is a great introduction to the team on their uniform.

Covering all the Major League Baseball teams, the book is divided between the American League and the National League and organized in alphabetical order.

From page on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim:

The Angels moved from Los Angeles in 1966 and now play in Angels Stadium of Anaheim. The stadium is referred to as The Big A and features a 230-foot sign with a halo. It lights up after every Angels victory.

NEW ILLUSTRATED BOOK FINALLY ANSWERS THE FIRST QUESTION

KIDS ASK ABOUT A BASEBALL TEAM: HOW DID THEY GET THEIR NAME?

“Trolley Dodgers, Pinstriped Yankees, and Wearing Red Sox:

How MLB Teams Got Their Names” Celebrates America’s Pastime

Bronx, NY - April 1, 2013 - Just in time for opening day, and officially licensed by Major League Baseball, Trolley Dodgers, Pinstriped Yankees, and Wearing Red Sox: How MLB Teams Got Their Names is the first illustrated book that builds on the idea that kids (and adults) can learn a lot from the names of teams. Each page explains the history of team names, reasons for their name and other fun and informative facts.

The new book from Jon Lindenblatt celebrates America’s national pastime by helping children of all ages discover fun facts about Major League Baseball teams. Combining the history of team names, their mascots, and the cities they call home, Trolley Dodgers, Pinstriped Yankees, and Wearing Red Sox: How MLB Teams Got Their Names offers an introduction to the history of baseball through graphic art illustrations.

The knowledge that can be gained from baseball is not limited to what happens on the field. The names of the teams themselves are a window into the history and geography of America (and a little bit about Canada).  The name of a team can help a person discover so much about the team and the city they play in. Team names can reflect local geography, continue tradition, or honor historical events.

“With so much to learn from the game, you can imagine my surprise when I realized there were no books that presented these fun facts in a format that would appeal to children. That’s my inspiration for this book” says author Jon Lindenblatt.

Today's questions was:   Prior to 1901, what were the Detroit Tigers known as according to the book Trolley Dodgers?

And the winning answer was:   @jsnpritchett - Wolverines

Nice job, Jason!  Send Dave Saltzer a PM with your address and he'll send you the book.
