Mitch Williams is an idiot, but...

Williams actually had two good points tonight (I know, one is hard enough to believe).

He pointed out that someone with Jepsen's velocity should be able to work hitters up the ladder, and give them some high, stinking, filthy cheese that they can't catch up to.

He also pointed out that Howie is (the only one) succeeding with RISP because he's not up there trying to hit a home run every time.

I'm seeing a new approach in Howie, he seems to be shortening up his swing and taking what the pitchers are giving him. He went down and hit a low curve for that double tonight.

Howie new approach sounds like Torii Hunter's new approach in 2012 and Vernon Wells new approach in 2013. Both those players are hitting better than anyone on the Angels.

He brought up a very good point about Jepsen on MLB Network.

He said Jepsen continues to throw the same speeds in the same location on every fastball (down in the zone).  He never changes the eye level of the hitter and never goes up the ladder.

That and Jepsen sucks, but interesting food for thought.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

He is only successful when he throws his fastball for strikes early in the count so he can then go to the breaking ball.  When he goes ball 1 ball 2 with his fastball then he is forced to throw his fastball in a hittable location, on top of that his fastball is 95-97 but straight.

I love the way Williams says something fallacious, people grab it as accurate and go on bashing the player and pitching coach based on the false information. Awesome messageboardness.

Totally agree, it proves information doesn't have to be true to evoke interest, lots of interest.
