Playoff baseball involves a lot of luck and randomness.

 

The Royals have played well, in fact very well. But that doesn't mean that they're the best team in baseball. They're just hot at the right time. 

 

It helps when you have a bullpen that is incredible and have defenders who catch everything in sight. All they've needed was a decent start from the starters and a little offense.

Good pitching, timely hitting, several great defensive plays, and a lockdown bullpen (the late-inning three with a combined ERA of around 1.40).

 

These are qualities of a good team.

It simply comes down to very good defense, a lights out bullpen and just enough offense. If you get this team a lead anytime after the fifth inning they just don't lose. They are riding this hot streak in the the World F'ing Series. Regardless of how we played, any team that sweeps us, then sweeps Baltimore (a very good team with a very good manager) you can't simply say they are lucky, or that we suck or that Baltimore sucks. Are they playing above their heads, probably, but there are three things that don't really go into slumps, speed, quality power bullpen arms (especially when you have three of them) and defense.

A KC-SF series would probably produce the worst TV ratings ever for a World Series. Does anybody outside those two cities even care?

 

There are new WS ratings lows practically every year.  Who gives an F?

but that's true of any world series that doesn't involve the Yankees, Red Sox, or Phillies.
