IGNORED

Tanaka

From what I saw, he seemed like he was willing to sign with any team, although he may have favored a big town where Japanese restaurants are available.

He originally signed with the Rakuten Eagles, an expansion team which is about the equivalent of the Devil Rays when they first appeared, and finally turned them into champions in his last year. Rakuten was sub .500 when he didn't pitch, but because he went 24-0, they somehow took the pennant.

And without Tanaka, the Eagles this year have the worst record in the Japanese league.

So, he was going to sign with the Yankees anyway (at least that's what many on here ASSUME), so I guess we should not bother to at least attempt to sign him.

Yeah, that's the spirit: "We assume he won't sign here, so why make an effort?"

We signed Masahiro Mulder instead because he liked the west coast.
