IIRC, something similar - but on a much lower scale - happened when the Angels were negotiating an extension with K-Rod and Rivera signed his monster extension.  That led to Daisy Fuentes being the closer.

Does Miguel Cabrera's 10 year-$30 million extension effect Trout's negotiations with the Angels? Most people agree that Trout is better player than Cabrera so shouldn't Trout's extension be worth more?

Probably not.  Both in years, and because Trouts first three years involve arbitration years.

I think the Angels would like an eight year extension and Trout's agent would want no more than 6. I think the Angel offer will be 8/220 and Trout's agent will counter with 6/180. A deal should fall somewhere in between.
