Brian McCann On Verge Of Deal With Yankees

Brian McCann is on the verge of a long-term deal with the Yankees, two sources tell Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.  McCann’s agent, BB Abbott, told Grant that he could not confirm that his client had agreed to terms with any team.

McCann, soon-to-be 30, was also said to be on the radar for the Red Sox and Rangers this offseason.  The veteran hit .256/.336/.461 in 102 games for the Braves last season and has been widely regarded as this winter's top free agent catcher over Boston's Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

McCann will do great in that park. With the option to DH now, that should keep him fresh and he able to produce a bit more.

Honestly, I don't think it's that unreasonable a contract. Especially after the wasteland of nothingness and tears that was the Yankees' catching situation prior to this(which of course could have been avoided by not letting Russell Martin walk to the Pirates for a pretty reasonable sum, but that's beside the point).

 

Obviously glad the Angels didn't get into this bidding though.

McCann is solid and I'm sure he'll dh some so he can play 140-150 games.

When there's a bad contract..I think Lincecum at 17.5 or Vernon Wells...

 

Face it...anyone thats been in the league more than 5 years who gets a multi-year contract.....99% chance it's a bad deal.

 

This is one of them, but it's not outrageous like A Rod or Zito
