"Pokémon World Championships 2023", which decides the world champions of "Pokémon SCARLET VIOLET", "Pokémon card game", "Pokémon GO", and "Pokémon UNITE", will be held in Yokohama city from August 11 to 13, 2023.

In commemoration of this first holding in Japan, the Yokohama DeNA BayStars will have the games vs. Chunichi Dragons from June 30 to July 2 as the "Pokémon Ball Park Yokohama". The helmet and baseball cap have a Pikachu design.

DeNA, the owner of BayStars, is an IT and game development company that published the app "Pokémon MASTERS".

@FromJapan, reporter Bill Shaikin appears to be smugly making fun of Bauer for having to play in Japan and not pointing out the Pokémon thing in a positive way.  Frankly it’s a bit offensive.  Whether the person who posted the link is doing the same thing, I don’t know.  You be the judge.

I think "Yakyu_Cosmopolitan" probably posted because the collaboration between Pokémon and BayStars was just interesting and/or funny. There was no malice in it. Whether "Yakyu_ Cosmopolitan" is Japanese or non-Japanese, he (or she) is very familiar with the NPB and understands the implications of this collaboration.

On the other hand, Bill Shaikin's "quote tweet" was just after Yakyu_Cosmopolitan's post, and his phrase was very short.
As he has no presice knowledge about the Yokohama DeNA Baystars, he may have simply made a short "quote tweet".
Or as you pointed out, because he dared to choose a tweet of collaboration with Pokémon, he might be trying to claim that "Bauer is forced to play for a team wearing a childish helmet in NPB that was only at the same level of minor leagues." As you commented, it can be natural that his tweet is interpreted as "not pointing out the Pokémon thing in a positive way".  If the former was his true intention, he should be careful with his expressions so as not to be misunderstood even on Twitter, after confirming the facts and backgrounds behind other people's tweets.

A collaboration with Pokémon is one of the long-term business strategy. In Japan as well, as the popularity of baseball among children and young people continues to decline, making it a challenge to acquire more children fans. The children when Pokémon was first released in 1996 are now in the parent generation, and they will come to the ballpark with their children.  On the day of the game, fans in attendance will be received "Pikachu sun visor". Even children who are not very interested in baseball will want Pokémon goods.

There had been a collaboration between Pokémon and professional sumo, where elderly fans are the main. Pikachu sun visor (even though professional sumo is held indoors) and Pokemon sticker sets, which can be used as souvenirs for grandchildren were also received to the spectator.

@Dollar Bill do you have a response?

I think it would be awesome to have an Angels Pokemon night. Kids could get Pokemon hats, the ceremonial first pitch could be the pokemon ball. The Ralley monkey could pop out of the Pokemon ball on the big screen. Each players bio on the screen can feature a Pokemon character morph.

And then the best part would be when @Dollar Bill would make smug and catty tweets about it.

From April 28, the advertisement "BAUER Came to Yokohama" was posted in the station premises near Yokohama stadium.

From May 3, a huge hanging banner (about 72 ft high, and about 33 ft wide) will be posted on the wall of a department store in front of the Yokohama station.

What if Ohtani is a Pokémon GO Trainer?

Psyduck (MAX 102mph) and Magikarp (MAX 102.5mph. Even Splitter 94mph!)
