What a passive, spiritless bunch. Where's the leadership? 

This home run or bust philosophy is a dead end. It's only produced losing teams year after year. Maddon was supposed to be more unconventional, but was handicapped by the one dimensional  skill sets and tended to act almost randomly out of desperation. 

Use the A's, Astros and Rays during their winning years more as a model. Pitching, defense, speed, bat control hitters with patience and some power.
