Actually, any fans from 1962 would have loved rooting on a contender in just its' second season, in an era where that just didn't happen.   Expansion teams in the 1960s usually lost at least close to 100 games for the first few seasons, totally different from recent times.   Yet, the Halos won 86 games in 1962, and led the AL on July 4 after sweeping a DH. 

Only true downer in 1962 would probably have to be them playing home games at Chavez Latrine, and having to use the visitor's clubhouse for those home games. 

I became a fan in late April 1966 as a nine year-old, thanks to reading the following day in a Charlotte newspaper about the Halos scoring 12 runs in the 8th inning at decrepit Fenway Park.
