Maybe back pitching by around September 10-15?

If I'm reading between the lines, he'll go up to 45 pitches next sim game, then 60 pitches the next one, and then 75 the next one after that?

That would put him around September 10-15 for a start, pitch limit 80-90.

No, I don't think they're going to have him do that many simulated games. I think he'll be pitching in the majors around Sept. 1 or shortly after, even if he can only go 60 pitches. They did the same thing with Garrett Richards last year. He started in September even though he could only go about 50, as I recall.

In his Sept starts last year, Richards threw from a low of 52 pitches to a high of 85.

Audition Ohtani as a closer, God knows we need one.  If he's good at it, he only has to throw less than than 20 pitches.  Then we can end the fact that he can't hit the day before or after he pitches as well.

plus all of the pitches in the bullpen and warming upon the mound. now multiply that by the amount of times of times he'd be required to do this.

plus, he's our best starter
