I recently got a Roku device for free.

One feature I've been using a lot is the Youtube app, coupled with the Youtube app on my smartphone.  Really handy being able to send playlists from my phone to the TV.  Something I don't understand is this -- the Youtube video quality (both resolution, and color balance) displayed on the TV is much worse than on a phone, tablet, or PC.   Meanwhile, content from other streaming apps appears relatively similar regardless of the device being used. 

I'm wondering if the Roku device is the culprit, or the Youtube app for Roku?  Any guesses?
