Does Otani & Stanton need to happen before the fire ignites the hot stove?

The fact nobody claimed Stanton is at the center of my position as to why the Angels are a feesible landing spot.

If nobody jumped at the chance to simply take the contract and NOT trade away prospects, then it means in a trade market in the offseason the amount of minor league talent needed to get him will be nominal or trivial.

That makes Stanton mostly and primarily a financial investment and not a loss of talent.

That fits the Angels immediate needs and also doesn't disrupt long term player development.

I think Tex did pretty damn good the year after he left. He put up some pretty strong numbers at Yankees Stadium and won a championship. Not sure what any of this has to do with Ohtani.

Used Tex as an example when talking about players who tries to swing for the fences every single times up because of that porch.

The Angels do have a budget. Having Stanton cripples our needs. Stanton is unable to stay healthy. Our outfield is fine. Jose Abreu is a better choice than Stanton. Fills a need and we are not committed long term.

Abreu would cost the Angels the lion's share of their minor league talent.

Your plan is great for 2018.  It is a terrible plan (compared to getting Stanton) if you care about 2018-2025.

Abreu has two years of arbitration control left and Stanton has three years of contractual control left. The former has slightly less impact to actual payroll while the latter has less in AAV due to his contract.

Also Stanton would not cripple us if Arte is willing to exceed the Luxury Tax in 2019 and 2020 by a very modest amount (no more than a $3M-$8M penalty).
