How many sure things on this roster? Guys where you can write down numbers and come pretty darn close to predicting what they'll do.

 

1. Mike Trout

2. Cole Calhoun (and that's based on two seasons; hardly a given)

3. Yunel Escobar (and almost certainly significantly below what he did last season)

4. Joe Smith

5. Huston Street

 

I think that's about it. Pujols is a huge question mark, as is every one of the starting pitchers.

 

When only five of the 30 or so guys who are going to cycle through are bankable, there are far too many variables to believe the team can compete — even if they do bring in one more bat.
