The rhetoric coming out of the FO is exactly what it should be. If the front office were to signal that they were willing to spend recklessly to add a big bat, they would lose leverage in every negotiation. If they were to say that they offered Hayword 200 million, every agent would know their budget. I'm not saying that the team is going to make a splash, but the information that hits the media has to be taken with a grain of salt. Everyone getting bent out of shape over what's being reported publicly needs to take a breath and understand why the message is what it is.

I still think we add one or two more bats.

I'm calm.  I just disagree with the route they are taking.

It's not even remotely Eppler's fault but it's been a series of missteps from the top down for almost a decade.

While the free agent signings have been a problem, it's been the general disregard for the acquisition of undeveloped talent and the development of said talent.

They have put themselves in a position where the only thing they can do is play for the next five years.  Yet that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts as any bit of currency is used up by the major league club for the current year.  Doing that year after year and now we are in a position where there is almost no currency available, yet massive holes to fill and no other choice but to fill them or risk losing out on a generational talent's presence.

So now we are down to spending our way out of this mess.  Which always works out well, but the alternative is worse.

More than likely, we tap our foot and lean on our chair at the outer margin of the dance floor for the next five years.

So it's not a lack of calm but general disappointment that we've put ourselves in this position.  One that has increased the chances of our historical baseball player spending half of his career somewhere else.
