....the Halos finally made it to the post-season for the first time, beating the Royals 4-1 behind Frank Tanana's CG. Tanana of course also had the last put out in that game, taking the feed from Carew at 1B.

I was there! Watched it from the back row of the upper deck on the first base side. 2 of my friends held my legs while I hung upside down outside the back row screaming my fool head off. Then we got the hell out of there.

The YES WE CAN chant went on all the way home to Pasadena. Even the other cars on the freeway were caught up in it honking 3 times for 40 plus miles. Oh to be 21 and chemically imbalanced...

My parents were Dodger fans before they had kids, but one reason I believe they converted eventually by the early '90s was constantly seeing those three years highlighted in the outfield at Angel stadium. My parents had three kids, my sister who was born in 1979, my older brother who was born in 1982, and then myself who was born in 1986. Just kind of seemed to work out that way and something I always seemed to notice in the early to mid '90s seeing those years myself and not really knowing what they meant. But it's a connection I enjoy having to a team I grew up loving and so damn grateful my parents converted to huge Angel fans.

"Porter at the plate, the pitch by Frank, ground ball hit to Carew, he bobbles, picks it up, and throws to Tanana.   In time, the 19 year wait is over!    They've done it!   The Angels are the champions of the West!"

I only remember Al Wisk's radio call word for word, don't remember Don Drysdale's exact words though.
