David Freese had basically 1 full season of career at bats by the time the 2011 playoffs rolled around. Puig hit .333 in the postseason last year. Cespedes hit .316 in 2012. Allen Craig had half a season worth of career at bats in 2011 when he hit 4 HR and had a 1.013 OPS. Bogaerts hit .296 last year in the postseason with an .893 OPS (with just 44 career at bats before then).

Freese had a .791 OPS that year (2011), and then proved he was legit the following season with an OPS over .800.  Puig is a legitimate all star in baseball, Cespedes is also a border line all star and a proven MLB player.  Craig, only 200 at bats in 2011 but had an OPS above .900.  Ill give you Bogaerts, that was just a case of being hot at the right time.

 

My point is the guys we have replacing Hamilton are not on the level of 4 out of those 5 guys you just mentioned.  Expecting Cron, Navarro, and Cowgill to fill in for Hamilton and be a threat in the lineup is not ideal.  Of the three of them, id say Cron seems like the safest bet right now considering his .782 OPS and the fact that he can drive the ball against any pitcher.  But in the playoffs you have to go with your best, and the guys that have the track record.

I'd like to see Navarro in there. I think cron when get exposed big time by good pitchers in the playoffs. Efren usually puts together a good AB, and that's what we need.

if mike puts Hamilton right back at clean up and we have to watch him flail in the playoffs....that's gonna be really disappointing

By the way, lot of people here were saying the exact same thing about Kendrick hitting 4th. That seemed to work out.

I'm really hoping mike is smarter than that...i don't think its a coincidence that ever since Hamilton left the lineup, the offense has picked up big time. And a big reason is the guy who took his spot
