This might be it. They spent the Cold War building up their nukes because that was how the next war was going to be fought. Then, the Wall came down and Gorbachev and Yeltsin were relatively friendly with the West. Because of that, there wasn’t a need to build up a conventional military.

Putin is pulling the “don’t fuck with the nutcase with the nukes” card and it’s kind of working.

Don’t lose sight of the fact russia is winning. China is winning bigly. Now russia has exposed some of their vulnerabilities but they are winning. This has become a big charade for our politicians and media. We should have kicked putins ass or stayed the hell out. This Ukrainian President isn’t George Washington. He’s a damn dictator that punishes political opposition and responsible for most of Hunter Biden’s energy deals. The losers of this conflict are the citizens of both countries. Also the American people who are funding this half ass non sense strategy. We’re on the path to piss away a trillion dollars with no change in the current outcome. It’s time for our leaders to fight or stand down. We aren’t defeating Russia with Twitter hashtags and sanctions.

Lol I seen Tucker in 18 months. Ukraine president probably would be Putin if he had the arsenal. Now the Ukrainian people are solid. Unfortunately they’ve never been truly free. They just keep exchanging one strong armed dictator for another. You’re right about our country and that’s my concern. It’s been a long time since establishment politicians and the msm united for a cause. That alone is reason for caution. I have no problem fighting Russia and China right now. It will be ugly but it’s going to happen and China isn’t getting any weaker. What I don’t like is our current strategy of pissing away money with no real intent of changing the outcome. We have elected progressives and democratic socialist. How much can they really disagree with China or Russia?  Our politicians don’t give a damn about average Americans must less Ukraine. This is all about politicians getting richer at this point.

This is a good chance to kick Russia in the teeth. I hate war but Russia is a legit enemy. It also hurts our biggest enemy China when we slap Russia around for a bit so I’m ok spending a few federal reserve notes on Javelins. If pudding brain starts talking about sending troops to the Baltic I’m out.

The only reason he would send troops to the Baltics is to shore up defenses of those NATO countries in the event Russia does take Ukraine. You can argue whether we should be part of NATO but we are at this time and do have obligations if Putin sets his sights on them

The Euro countries in NATO need to reinforce themselves rather than sit on their ass a expecting the US to jump to the rescue. We should be the last line of defense, not the primary.

Theyve always been overrated.

They have a large Army. But its not very well trained (by western standards). They have some impressive equipment. (In small numbers). And they expected Ukraines govt to flee, so the public would shrug and say "whatever". (They didnt).

 

Russia is still very dangerous. And they havent used "everything" yet.

 

But they ran short on gas and supplies week 1.... thats pretty hilarious... especially when theyre fighting literally right next door.

 

Essentially, the money for the military goes to 1. Superweapons 2. Corruption. So most of their combat power exists on paper, only.

Think the Angels here.... Trout and Ohtani, no pitching or pen. Thats Russia with nukes and some impressive Fighter aircraft.... when their tanks are literally Pujols, 70s and 80s vintage, with not near enough trucks to supply them in the field.

 

Ive seen people arguing that its different than Iraq / Afghanistan, because Ukraine is an actual Army.

 

This is true... to a point. But Russia is losing people daily to Ukrainian militia, mostly. The difference being, western equipment (Ukraine) has time and time again shown itself better than Soviet / Russian equipment.

Russia, by all estimates, has lost more people in 3 weeks than we did in Iraq / Afghanistan combined. Vastly more equipment.

Again, to those downplaying the Iraqis and Afghanis, fine. 

Lets make it fair then, and do 30 years. Desert Storm. Somalia. Bosnia. Kosovo. Afghanistan. Iraq. Libya. Syria.

 

Then just do 3 weeks of Russia in Ukraine.

 

And all the countries I listed were supplied by the Soviets / Russians...

And if thats still not fair, then lets do Israel vs the whole middle east, then.

 

 

The Russian govt has known since Desert Storm the tech gap was huge. Thats why theyre so in love with nukes. But they lied to their people for 2 decades, bragging about weapons that dont actually exist. And they fell for their own BS.... and we're seeing the results.

 

One more Ill add here. Anyone remember about 4 years ago, when that Russian merc group "Wagner" tried to rush a platoon of Marines, with a single SF detachment in Syria? Literally like 50 Americans at an outpost, vs like 200 Russian and Syrian troops, with Tanks?

 

And the score was like Americans 200 to 0? Because those Marines knew how to work a radio, and employ combined arms?

 

 

In short. Russia has the firepower to overwhelm a peer adversary with numbers, especially artillery. They havent modernized to fight a 2000s adversary. And what Ukraine lacks in numbers of airplanes and tanks, they make up for with western anti-tank weapons, communications, and intel.

 

 

 

 

 

Russia can still "beat" Ukraine's Army. But they lost already, 2 weeks ago. And with the sanctions, and the whole world united, Russia is done for at least a decade at this point.

But Putin cant quit....

Just saw an article on reddit, that Russia has admitted to almost 10K killed in action.... thats HUGE if they are admitting to that...

 

And keep in mind, that doesnt include the Chechens or Wagner people fighting....

Their whole strategy is "blow everything up in front of you". Which is fine, to a point. They have the weapons to do that.

 

The other parts, like "what about when they shoot back?" and "shit, i forgot my cellphone charger (or in their case, gas food and ammunition) at home" they dont seem to plan at all.
