Every team needs to represent 1 player. Zobrist was selected as the only Rays player to make it. Matt Moore should have made it over anyone else on the Rays. Verlander over Moore??? But yeah, Longoria could have been selected over Zobrist if it had to be a Ray.

I didn't even realize he was the only Rays player until now. Which makes it that much dumber that Longo didn't make it. 

 

I get that Zobrist can play a few positions but Longoria is currently 5th in baseball in WAR. That's one of the biggest snubs ever for an all star team.

Because the "All-Star" game, not the "All-Best Players in Baseball" game.  

 

If there were an "All-Star" concert for singers, and the attendance was decided by voters, you wouldn't get the best singers, you'd get Justin Bieber and a bunch of other no-talent (Taylor Swift and One Direction) hacks.  

 

The AS game is, by definition, a popularity contest with some homerism thrown in by the guys who make the additional AS selections.
