BART officer shot and killed by friendly fire
Socaliente replied to fan_since79's topic in The Official Hangout Forum
I'll enlighten the keyboard warriors on here who just look for an excuse to bad mouth police. BART officers have jurisdiction statewide. They will serve warrants and do more than just act as security guards. They are Sworn Peace Officers. While details are still coming out, it sounds like this was a joint effort with dublin pd and they came across an open door on a house of a suspect already in custody. I find it disgusting for those on here to be mocking and degrading a man who lost his life just doing his job protecting the public. BART officers work some of the most dangerous areas in the state. Anyone who has actually made a trip at night will know this to be true. -
Peter Bourjos says he can steal 40 bases
Socaliente replied to Chuck's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
He better learn how to steal bases. It amazed me that someone so fast had no clue how to get a good jump. -
Its disgusting these guys got off. Once they made it personal there is no way you can defend them. They will be sued in civil court and lose. No one wins in this situation, a family is broken, the public has less trust for officers, and the majority of officers who are good people now have to fight harder against a negative perception. If im going to blame anyone for this outcome im blaming every person who gets a jury summons and throws it away or comes up with some retarded excuse why they should be exempt. Our juries are made up of 12 licensed drivers who were left after everyone else decided they were too good to serve.

New scandal for Chris Christie
Socaliente replied to fan_since79's topic in AngelsSpin.com Political Talk
I'm wondering if the republicans did this end Christie. Its no secret hes their best shot at the white house, but after the Sandy incident the party feels he turned his back on them. They dont want this guy as president, hes what the people actually want. As for the media blowing up the story of the 91 year old women. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/10/nyregion/woman-says-lane-closings-were-not-to-blame-for-her-mothers-death.html yeah, she was already dead before they loaded her up. -

Iraq slipping back into despair.
Socaliente replied to Lhalo's topic in AngelsSpin.com Political Talk
I think its more amazing that some people respond better to a ruthless dictator forcing them to live their lives a certain way than by having "freedom." I spent roughly 27 months in Iraq and saw people who really have no idea what freedom or democracy is. They voted for leaders that only split the country instead of unting it. Religion rules the region and has destroyed any concept of free will. Just because we remove a tyrant doesnt mean we can change a culture that has been that way for thousands of years. Without a dominant power determining every aspect of the peoples lives, the country lives in chaos. Either by a group like al queda, a ruthless dictator, or by the pressure from the church, the only way these people will live peacefully is thru fear. Its a shame because there are millions of hard working people there who just want whats best for their families. And anyone who believes this war was about WMD's, stopping a madman, or later preventing terrorism is a fool. This war was about generating cash for private companies at the expense of iraqi civilians and American troops. Its insane how much money Iraq made for a few elites. -

Proposal for new A's stadium targets Port of Oakland
Socaliente replied to gotbeer's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Wont happen, not even sure why groups are considering it. The Port of Oakland will not give up any land. Its just too valuable to their industry. And I dont see anyone coming in to give a stupid offer on the land. The area itself is not attractive, were talking the need for an entire district to be redone. Otherwise it will be a jewel sitting in the middle of a wasteland. Same situation the Braves are getting out of. If someone can pony up the cash then awesome, im sure it would be a great ballpark and id like to visit. But the A's ownership is done in Oakland. Portland / Vegas A's -
Point/Counterpoint: Banning Plate Collisions
Socaliente replied to AngelsWin.com's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I play Adult league and the accepted rule in most leagues is a "Must slide at home" rule. Catchers are still allowed to block the plate, but if a runner doesnt slide when there is a play he is out. This protects catchers from major injury but doesnt give runners a free lane to the plate. I really think MLB messed up by taking the plate away from catchers. That is the legacy of their position and what is taught to kids as soon as they put gear on. Block the plate. As entertaining as it is to watch a catcher get steamrolled on a bang bang play, the risk of ending a career just isnt worth it. The gear is to protect catchers from balls, not a running back charging at full speed. -

My current job made me write a 4-5 page autobiography. I had a week to complete it. The day I turned it in, the HR girl took it from me, sat me down in a room, and told me I had an hour to rewrite it, without the copy I already wrote. I was a little frustrated but I think its awesome they can weed people out that way.

They need to be listened to because there is evil in this world and if you ignore it long enough you can become victim to it. This is a tragedy, but it wont be the last. When it hits close to home its always in the back of your mind, hopefully you learn from it and are willing to do whatever is needed the next time it happens and you are there. There are countless instances in other events of people not reacting, both law enforcement and civilians, that cost many lives. All we can do is never forget those we lost, learn from it, and do the best we can when the next situation arises. There should be no enjoyment from this, and if you do get your kicks off it then you have serious issues. But these events are a harsh reality that need to be known about.

Chris Christie regarding Super Bowl power failure

Id vote for Christie for president. Sadly the Republican party views him as too liberal and wont let him run. -
Put another "X" on the cops' guns
Socaliente replied to mtangelsfan's topic in AngelsSpin.com Political Talk
Its a bad situation. Officers killed an innocent kid and a young boy died because our society is fearful of guns. I dont blame the cops at all. They did what they should have did. They got a call of a man with a gun walking around. This is illegal in California. They responded and saw exactly what they were told. What ever the circumstances of the boy not complying with lawful orders was, the police acted like they should act every time someone turns at them while holding an AK47. I'm very sorry this boy had to die. I'm sure he was a great kid and had a bright future. It wasnt his fault, it wasnt the police fault. There are no winners in this situation. -
