A's fate will be decided in November

Vegas Halo Fan

We already knew that the ownership of the Oakland athletics has formally applied to MLB for permission to move the team to Las Vegas. We now know when the issue will be decided. A recommendation on the application will take place in November, with the final vote occurring at an owners' meeting in mid-November. The team needs 75 percent of the teams to vote in favor to proceed.

It is comical that this was stalled out until their lease was up, even though they have been trying to relocate for over a decade without any help from the city or MLB. Maybe they can sub lease the Giants stadium and pay for window washing in their basement offices.

I hate this so much

The city of Oakland and ownership is to blame though

Definitely back to the Coliseum this year to take in a couple games

idc what anyone says, it’s a great place to watch a game. There’s just something about that place. I really enjoy it.

The prison gangway to walk from BART to the stadium?

Mt. Davis blocking any semblance of a nice view?

The foul territory larger than a whale's vagina?

The surrounding ghetto and all its "character"?

Ya we're all going to miss that shit hole.

I hate the A's and Oakland but the reality is it's pretty damn sad to see a team with their history falling to this.  Most relocations are teams that never took off in their market or had any real history of success, A's had a dynasty in the 70s and some great teams in the 80s as well

As well as very strong teams in 2000-2006 (great rivalry with the Halos), 2012-2014, and 2018-2021

Remarkable stat: despite a near 40 year post-season drought through 1970, the A’s have appeared in TWENTY post-seasons over the past 53 seasons.   That in spite of a crappy payroll year in and year out

Billy Beane should eventually enter the MLB HOF.

They were the Philadelphia A's for decades. Some great teams and players. Al Simmons, Jimmy Foxx, Lefty Grove, etc. an early thirties powerhouse rivalling the Yankees. Connie Mack's prime, though he was around forever.

Then the Kansas City Athletics from the fifties to late sixties. In the fifties a virtual farm team for the Yankees. Roger Maris trade anyone? Then Charles O Finley took over. Quite a colorful team when he moved them to Oakland.  And under Dick Williams, a winner with top talent. And since then, a few reconstructed quality phases between low periods.

But time marches on. And it's a matter of adaptation or being left behind. But with this franchise things spiralled out of control for the obvious off the field reasons.

So Oakland turns out to have been  just another temporary pause in the the ongoing relocation journey of the franchise.

Philadelphia, Kansas City, Oakland, Las Vegas. Historians will have fun compiling cumulative and location based stats records.

Not to mention that one is claiming it's a great place to watch a game, yet you are far away from the field from any seat. Even if the rest wasn't true, the distance from home plate for ALL seats makes it a lesser place to watch a game than any other current stadium. Then you have to deal with the duct taped grates on the ground and broken seats all over. Luckily the broken seats didn't matter since there were 8 visiting fans per section.

They will have spent more years in Oakland (56 so far) than in Philadelphia (54).

Supposedly the Giants have only made their park theoretically available for about half of the home games. One sports writer suggested Mexico City.

Philly, KC, Oakland and now Las Vegas.  Hopefully it works in LV.
