Alden Gonzalez: Scioscia defends decision to return Trout to left

Recommended Posts

Although I think a players defensive comfort level does has a small effect on their offense, if the coaching staff thinks he won't miss a beat then fine by me.

My eyes tell me that Trout is an excellent CFer and an average LFer.  His arm is below average and it's why he's not an elite OFer.

While I agree that you need a stronger arm to play CF than LF, your ability to range is much more important to being a good CFer whereas in LF, your arm strength is equally as important as your ability to range.

I don't know what Bourjos would be able to do in LF, but he is an elite CFer.  Arguably the best in baseball or at least top 3.

Either way, I think their is marginal difference.

His arm is not below average. It is average for his position with good accuracy. I agree, he doesn't throw like Dave Winfield or Ellis Valentine did, but not many do. I agree that PB is an excellent center fielder. I am just going to be glad to have him back in the lineup.l

he's got an accurate cut-off arm = average to just below average

LOL  Ouch, sounds like a partial amputee. Never mind, I'm sure I have you in stitches with my quick one-liner. ;)   I'd say average is a fair assessment, LT. I am happy to see PB coming back. He was playing good ball when he went down. Do  you think he should go back to lead-off, or does he have the skill set to hit #2 and hit behind Trout. It worked real well for Torii last season.

Bourjos' obp looks great cause of those hbp's. He'll drop back down to .320 territory.

That certainly could happen, but he has shown some growth with plate discipline, plus he has the legs to beat out a lot of infield hits. He is certainly better in that spot than Aybar with his sub .300 OBP.
