Relievers are so damn fickle. I mean, who'd have thought Robles would be one of the best relievers in baseball this year? 

On the opposite end, look at Taylor Cole. His FIP is literally identical to last year when he was very good, yet this year he's got a 74 ERA+.

Oddly, Cole has an excellent HR/9 rate, something this team desperately needs. He's just getting knocked around the field like Victor's mom working the farm.

This is not in response to your post at all and I am not a Maddon fan, but how is this his fault?  

On June 5th the Cubs were in 1st place so it didn’t seem like a bad deal for them at the time. Maybe it was a missing piece they felt they needed since Chapman bolted. If he had pitched well they would’ve certainly be in the playoff mix. Not all free agents work out and I think the Angels are a perfect example of that.

Now back to June 5th, we were already 11.5 games back and out of it so lol at pointing fingers at the Cubs who have been competitive all season. Definitely not Maddon’s fault. They’ll be in the mix next year again.

Heck, maybe as good as any late innings guy since June 1?     45.1 innings, 1.19 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 47/9 Ks/BBs, only 2 HRs allowed, 16/17 SVO's

For the season with a week to go:  70.2 innings, 2.29 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 72/16 Ks/BBs, only 5 HRs allowed, 22/25 SVO's

Best and most consistent Halos closer performance since? 

Imagine if the Cubs had the Undertaker doing what he is doing here.
