Statcast Accuracy

Recommended Posts

How accurate is statcast on distances? For instance tonight I'd like to compare the Acuna and Alonso home runs...

Acuna- 111.5 mph / 31 degree angle // 462 ft

Alonso- 118.3 mph / 17 degree angle // 454 ft

How accurate are those distances and how is park/weather taken into effect?

There are instances where statcast just doesn't work and we all pretend like it didn't happen. For instance, Trout's monster HR last year that statcast said was 500+ feet, but then said was not official and couldn't be verified but then we tracked similar blasts from the HR derby almost a decade ago when statcast didn't even freakin exist and its measure out at 490-ish feet. Then they show the longest HR' of 2018 and Trout's blast would've outdistanced them all except Trevor Story's, but is still nowhere to be found in the archives.

When the system doesn't work, they just pretend it didn't happen.

Then there will be balls that clear the 375 foot area of a stadium by a solid 100 feet but for some reason only measure out to be 410 feet, yet balls driven to dead center than clear the 400 foot part of the park by 10 feet but measure out to be 450.

Because of all the factors involved, I think statcast's distance aren't very accurate at all.but they seem to have a solid handle on velocity and run speed.

Do you think they measure how far the ball SHOULD go based on the speed/launch angle but leave out altitude/weather factors?
