Who is this Walsh guy with all the HR you guys keep talking about in the other thread ?  What do we think of this guy overall ?

Hard to tell if he's for real.  Even more difficult to know if he's going to get a shot.  He's a 39th round pick out of U of GA where he was a solid two way player.  He had 7 hrs in college over his 4 years worth of 468 ab but he's always hit a lot of doubles.  Last year he had 44 xbh in 344 AB.  But struggled at age 23 up his AA call up.

This year he's completely turned a corner.  He started in A+ and totally dominated.  Moving up to AA and he hasn't missed a beat hitting his 4th hr is around 40 ab giving him 17 overall in around 190 at bats.  Here's the big kicker though.  He's almost double hi bb rate and he's whiffing at a much higher rate as well.  I think they've probably told him to grip and rip.

I've watched him a few times this year.  Saw him a bit last year but not as much.  The noticeable difference that I see is somehow he's found easy power.  Really nice swing but the ball comes off his bat with effortless authority where as last year I didn't see that.  Not sure how that happens.  He's still making enough contact as well.

He's also a very good 1bman.  Strong arm.  They've actually used him in relief a few times as he was a solid college pitcher.  He's thrown in the low 90's actually.

Could he be a Justin Bour type?  Yonder Alonso?  Matt Carpenter?  Most of the late bloomers that are given a chance actually had a top prospect pedigree at some point.  So I think perception works against him to some degree.

But I've seen probably 20+ at bats from his this year and the power is legit.  I am sure they have seen way more than I have so they have to know.  My guess is that they're a bit surprised and they'll just keep letting him progress.  I can't imagine they would ignore the fact that he's got 12hrs and a 1.300+ ops in his last 90 at bats putting him 1 off the minor league lead.

Considering where he was drafted I would be thrilled if he made to the bigs as a left-handed power hitter off the bench.

Mitchell Traver with a nice outing for burlington today.  5ip, 1h, 0er, 2bb, 5k.  3.00era with 39 k in 48 ip.

Now that the halos have graduated most of their top prospects, there's not a ton of talent in A ball right now.  Reminds me that we haven't seen Torii Jr in about a week now.  Anyone know what's going on?   He's on the 7-day but not sure what his injury was.

Adell 2/5, 2b
Jones 2/5
Marsh 1/5

Adell and Marsh still trying to find their way.  Talent still shining through but looked substantially over matched at times.  More at bats and they'll get there.

Sean Isaac - 5ip, 2h, 0er, 3bb, 11k.  2.79 era at A+.  He's 25.  They've tried him in short stints at AA and AAA both this year and last.  He just walks a ton of guys.  He's got good stuff.  Lots of movement.  Nasty slide piece.  Got a ton of swing and miss tonight.  He's started the last 3 games.  He made 1 start last year so it appears they're converting him.  The five innings he pitched tonight was the longest outing of his career.

Isaac is a good example of something that's important for a lot of these guys toiling away in the minors.  He's a 35th round pick and in his age 25 season.  In most minor league systems and with past regimes, he would be forgotten org depth.  But the current crew is still paying attention to him.  Trying to find a way to make him successful.

If something isn't working, they try different spots.  Starter to reliever.  Reliever to starter.  I would also bet that they are constantly trying to feed back on swing planes and launch angels and spin rates and release points and zone management and tunneling and a shit ton of other stuff that we have no idea about.  Not to mention the aggressive approach in promoting.

Maybe it was pulled fly ball rates or launch angles that's made Walsh a true power hitter.  It didn't come out of thin air.

I really like that they're not afraid to throw shit against the wall to see what sticks when something else isn't working.

Yep.  It's important to keep in mind they were promoted more aggressively than most prospects in their shoes (promoted after only 1 month of starts in A).  A lot of times, I see organizations have a player stay in A for one year, then go to hi-A the next, then start to ramp up the promotions beyond that.  Adell/Marsh are likely to start off next year in AA (if they don't finish this season there), so they definitely on the fast track.  Even if they spend the rest of the year in hi-A, that's fine with me.  They won't be up in the MLB before long ;)

Blurb on Walsh on my CBS Sportsline fantasy site.

Jared Walsh, 1B, Los Angeles Angels

2017 minors: .311 BA (344 AB), 11 HR, 32 2B, .878 OPS, 29 BB, 101 K
2018 minors: .291 BA (189 AB), 16 HR, 13 2B, 1.009 OPS, 32 BB, 64 K

Having just moved up to Double-A as a 24-year-old, Walsh needs to make a serious push over the next year-plus to have a chance at a meaningful role in the majors, but he has certainly done his part this year, upping his power production in a way that makes sense for a player who elevates the ball like he does (close to a 50 percent fly-ball rate). He has been even better since moving up to Double-A, batting .350 (14 for 40) with three homers in 12 games, which suggests his early success wasn't just fueled by the hitter-friendly California League.

@totdprods you got a PM.

Taylor Ward had a HR washed away too in a game in which got postponed due to rain after 3 innings of play. He was 2-2 with a HR and 3 RBI in that game.

Nice! Kind of curious why he didn't start the year in Burlington, but I guess the Angels thought his development would be better served in extended spring training. Anyhow, he's an Eric Longenhagen favorite. In my view he's the Angels #3 pitching prospect, after Canning and Suarez (I would consider Barria graduated) and ahead of C Rodriguez.

my guess is innings and other promotions/demotions.  the herd at A has thinned out substantially.  He'll be facing  upper draft picks, guys getting a late start and guys that have yet to be promoted.

We're on our usually schedule ... will fold the @MLBDraft & July 2 guys into the Top 100 & team Top 30s between the signing deadline & the trade deadline in July. Need to let them sign contracts first!

@jimcallisMLB when will top draft picks be featured in the top 100 and 30 team prospect lists? Thanks!

Entire Top 30s. We'll add other guys who have improved and move our preseason order all around.

Replying to @jimcallisMLB @MLBDraft
Do the entire top 30 guys get updated based on performance or do you just squeeze in the draft/signees?
