Really tough to have any enthusiasm for this years team.  They didn’t deserve to win tonight and in the end they didn’t.  Also, really needed that 2nd point.

You can’t keep blowing scoring chances and expect to win.  You can’t get dominated in possession like that and expect to win.  They just aren’t very good.

Like I said to Cory, RC is falling right back to his old habits.  BB had worse dmen but he knew how to keep the team forechecking and keep the pressure off the D.  This D gets hung out to dry so often it is sad.

Exactly, This loss was a reflection of the coaching. Worst game of the season, I think. Because, it's a reflection of who the Ducks are right now. We're not going anywhere playing like that and it just seems to be getting worse.

The opposition could play without their goalie and score more than us the way we play against an open net. No puck possession. Just chip it out and give it right back to them. Got to get those 30 second line changes. And here, I thought San Jose was playing the back to back.

D will never get better with the cones playing.  The fact that your best defensive pairing wasn't on the ice with 1:29 remaining, and that cone #2 was after a timeout just shows how clueless the coaching staff is.

Definitely not good that either of them are playing critical minutes.  Part of the issue is that this is the way the team is assembled.

AP source: Ducks place forward Rasmussen on waivers

Not that this is a big deal at all.  Overall, he was a huge disappointment.  I thought he would solidify the 4th line and even fight for a spot on the 3rd line.  Instead, he can't even hang at the AHL level.

Interesting that Rasmussen's contract was terminated.  Must mean he has an offer in Europe to play.  

Someone please claim Holzer.  LOL.  In the comments, people are speculating that this move was to clear cap space for some porn.

Good that they are looking for options but it is RC's system that has failed.  I hope he gets axed at the end of the year.

I keep expecting there to be more trade rumors but it has been quiet less than two weeks until the deadline.  I wonder if GMBM and the Samuelis are waiting to see if it is worth it, or maybe Eaves progress?

I know some of you hate GMBM, especially UTH, but I think he does fine considering that they have never truly been a cap team until the last couple years.  The biggest mistake was signing Perry, and nobody thought that was a bad thing at the time.

Some other mistakes like Stoner and Bieksa, but in the end even those guys aren't big time signings.  My biggest problem is this entire orgs obsession with old school hockey.  Teams don't need or use shutdown defensemen anymore, they need fast and agile dmen.  The best defenses are made up of guys like Cam, Montour, etc.  The whole idea of having one thumper and one skater on the blue line is out dated.

Ducks say four-game trip will 'make or break' playoff hopes

I'd say 3 wins and we are going to be buyers.  3 loses and we are sellers.  2 wins, and it will depend on what the other teams do.

And when I say we will be sellers, I don't mean fire sale.  I mean cone sale.  And I still think we can make a trade and still get better for the playoffs and for the future.  It's just a question on if other teams are willing to deal.

Silf would be a good one to trade and maybe Vermette has value as a faceoff specialist with someone, he wouldn't bring anything in return though.

I still think Silf + 1st for Max Patches is something to shoot for.  Throwing in someone other than Larsson/Steele/Roy if it makes or breaks the deal.

If they are sellers then dump Silf for picks and call up Roy.  Put Kase on the second line and Roy on the third with Henrique.

I agree cone 1 and 2 won't move.  But they may make it so that cone 2 retires.  

Silf is who I think would be traded.  I still like Silf for Galchenyuk.  That would be one of those hockey trades that Murray likes, and it's two underperforming players that a change of scenery might help.  Of course if we could get one of their 2nd/3rd pairing defenders, it would help.  

If in total sell mode, then Silf for picks would be ok.  But I would no matter what keep Kase on the Henrique line to build up even more chemistry for next season.  Brown would be fine in the second line, and could be a cheap alternative for the shutdown line.  If we are out, might not be a bad idea to see how Roy does on the 4th line.  We have to make some decisions with Grant and Wagner.  That Wagner is near the tops of the league in hits makes him a very tempting and cheap keep for the 4th line.  Grant has proven more than capable for the 4th line.  Grant/Wagner/Roy might make the 4th line more potent and set us for next season.

Roy is wasted on the 4th line under RC... maybe if it was a BB system but since RC rarely rolls the 4th line it isn't worth it.

I also think Perry needs to get off the top line.  Imagine Patches/Getz/Rakell.

I agree with you there.  Perry needs off.  Even Galch/Getz/Rakell would work, since Galch is a left shot.  Although Eaves was a right and did well.  

Just remember that when Eaves comes back, he will be on the 1 line.  So while Galch to the 4th with Perry would actually strengthen that line.  Patches to the 4th would be a total waste of talent.  Although they could move patches to the 2nd line, with Kesler and say Roy.  And do a Perry, Cogs, Wagner and make that the shutdown line.  No wait, Perry doesn't play D so scratch that.

The 4th line will always be a Grant/Wagner/Scrub type line.  Roy is small so I don't think he works on a shutdown line with Cogs.  He doesn't have Cogs motor.  Kase is bigger and can play two ways.

4th line of Wagner/Grant/Ritchie makes sense.  Third line Roy/Henrique/Perry, Second Cogs/Kes/Kase, and Top line Patches/Getz/Rakell.

If Eaves comes back then bump Patches to the second line and send Roy down, Kase back to the third line.

That is all the dream scenario where the Ducks can flip Silf++ for Patches.

Watch out for Michael Grabner if we bring someone in.  I agree with GB though, if we don’t win 3 games on this trip I think it’s time to just throw in the towel.  We can trade during the draft and not get fucked. 

And I don’t hate Bob Murray.  He’s done well in many ways.  All GM’s make mistakes.  He’s made plenty.  But I don’t think he’s been bad.... even though on here recently I’ve been pretty critical.  I just think it’s time to move in a different direction.  He’s had plenty of time to push this team over the hump.  It unfortunately hasn’t worked out.  If we’re gonna take another serious run with this group we need something to fundamentally change.  It’s not going to happen with Murray in charge. 

Anyway this road trip is make or break.  The red wings suck.  They have to win tonight.
