I've been Blanton's biggest critic, but I gotta give it up to him last night.  He battled despite the errors and was able to get key double plays when he needed it.  And he should have earned a victory last night.  If this is the pitcher we're gonna get every five days, I'm okay with it.

He was better. Somewhat encouraging, of course the BP still sucks. I really wish I had something more positive to say, but I never thought we were going to win that game. It all goes back to pitchers not be able to hold anyone.

Highlights of Blantana's night:  Rangers didn't HR him into oblivion, and the Rangers' coaches got a good workout on the bases (12 hits in 6 innings).

It's sad when people think a 2.16 WHIP over 6 IP is an encouraging performance.  That's how bad Blanton has been.  

 

It was pretty much his usual performance mixed in with some luck.

Some more fun stats:  Of nearly 200 pitchers this season with 10+ IP, Vargas and Blanton have the 2nd and 5th highest WHIP respectively, and a .391 and .388 (!) AVG.  So pretty much when somebody hits a fair ball against these pillars of excellence, it has a 40% chance of being a hit.  Awesome!

He did a bit better, but it was hardly a quality start. His numbers would have been better had his manager not sent him out to begin the 7th inning. Either send him out for the whole inning, or don't send him out. What Blanton did not do was shut the other team down after we gained leads. That is the mark of a quality start.
